WAIT!! COMPASS OFF DIRECTION

The manufacturer of the compass product for all 1997-98 models except JX, has done extensive testing on all compass products brought back through the Warranty Center and found in many cases as high as 50% of the units had, "no trouble found". Do not replace a compass module until the following steps have been completed:

Compass Module Diagnosis

Outside Temperature

• OC means, "open circuit", which indicates the temp sensor in front of the radiator connection should be checked or the sensor replaced.
• SC means, "short circuit", again check the wining, the connection or replace the temp sensor.
• For any other problems contact your dealer.

Compass

• The first step with any compass problem is to recalibrate the compass.
• See the Owners' Manual to determine how to put the compass in the "CAL" mode.
• In an open area, drive the vehicle slowly in circles until the "CAL" turns off.
• If the "CAL" stays on for more than 4 circles, move to a new area and repeat steps land 2.
• Be sure to set the variation zone by the map in the owners' manual.
• If the compass still will not calibrate, contact your dealer.

If the display blanks out, contact your dealer.
