The Body/Chassis Group, along with the Customer Advocate Group, have been working with Engineering to resolve the brake lead issue on 1994/95 4x4 and 4x2 (BR) Ram Trucks. We are currently recommending that the following steps be taken to resolve this condition.

1 .    Check and set the tire pressures to the required setting.

2.    Drive the truck to confirm that the lead condition is present during braking.

3.    Perform a four wheel alignment. Set the front caster, camber and total toe to the preferred specifications (where adjustable). NOTE: Save the before and after alignment settings for reference later.

4.    Drive the vehicle to see if the lead condition still exists. If insufficient improvement has occurred, proceed with checking the following brake system components:

A) Check the torque setting on the front wheel bearing retaining nuts (4x2 models only). Correct as necessary per the applicable Service Manual.

B) Check the front calipers to ensure they are the correct caliper (BR 1500, 2500 & 3500 each have a different size caliper bore). If an incorrect caliper has been installed, replace the caliper and the pads on both sides.

C) Check the force (drag) required to turn the front rotors. When grasping the wheel studs, the rotors should turn freely. If not, check the caliper pistons to ensure they are retracting properly and replace as necessary.

D) Check the caliper-to-knuckle interface clearance with a feeler gauge. The clearance on both sides (top and bottom) should be between .005and.013in.forthelengthofthe rail. If the clearance isn't within specifications, replace the knuckle and caliper.

5. Drive the vehicle to determine if the lead is still present while braking. If the lead is still present, contact the S.T.A.R. Center Body/Chassis Group for further assistance.
