Quick fix for throttle cable popping off the ball stud

At about 280 Km the throttle cable started popping off the ball mount in the middle of the night. I folded a piece of aluminum foil four times and put the foil over the end of the ball stud. The foil tightened the ball/socket clearance enough to keep the cable attached. I stopped at a John Deere dealer the next morning and got a ball joint for a JD 140 lawn tractor and relocated the mounting stud about 1/4" below the factory stud.
